Scandinavia on my bucket list! But it had to wait till a good cruising deal came along. Not exactly the best way to explore the lovely cities of Copenhagen, Stockholm, Tallinn, Helsinki and St. Petersburg, but this trip is really more about sightseeing with family and friends. And ok, a food trip!
Post-Camino, Post-Berlin & Copenhagen, I have been looking forward to a whole day at sea as we sailed out of Copenhagen towards Stockholm, Sweden. After nearly 3 weeks since I arrived in Europe, there’s absolutely an entire day to do nothing!
Not quite. Royal Carribean made sure one can choose being busy vs being idle. Busy dressing up for fine dinners and post-dinner performances, watching movies, learning new languages or culinary skills, getting pampered, engaging in sports, daily exercises or line dancing, or simply having a drink at the bar and getting entertained by the cruise band.
On our first night, the wait staff assigned to our table at the fine dining hall reassured us that they have a full stock of escargot, pickled or smoked herring, salmon, and steaks to serve all dinners during the cruise. Great, comforting bit of news. My only worry is how to stop myself from eating!
In 2 days aboard Serenade of the Seas, I must have eaten as much as I ate during my entire camino week. Breakfast and lunch buffets, a la carte dinners with in-between snacks that should have been avoided, I feel I need to do another camino to shed off the calories threatening to pile up on this 7-night cruise. Quite a major departure from the pilgrim’s meal I have grown accustomed to. Oh well. Hakuna Matata. Sans Souci. No worries. I never felt so relaxed for a long time till now. Loving this!
